A secure hold for dental implants requires sufficient quantity and quality of jawbone. If bone has receded through long-term tooth loss, infection or age-related changes, bone grafting (augmentation) is often the decisive prerequisite for successful implant treatment.
At the CompletDent dental clinic in Budapest, we use the latest biological techniques and premium bone graft materials to restore lost bone volume or reinforce it where needed. When is bone grafting needed?

Not every patient needs bone grafting. We establish whether you do using high-precision 3D CBCT diagnostics . Typical cases include:

  • Long-term tooth loss: Bone recedes when it is no longer stimulated by chewing forces.
  • Gum disease (periodontitis): Advanced infection can damage the jawbone.
  • Anatomy: Especially in the upper jaw, the bone layer below the sinus is often naturally too thin.

Our bone grafting techniques

Sinus lift

Specifically for the back of the upper jaw. The sinus membrane is carefully lifted and the resulting space filled with bone material. We distinguish between the internal sinus lift (a minor procedure directly through the implant site) and the external sinus lift (for larger bone deficits).

Bone spreading & bone splitting

If the jaw ridge is too narrow, it is carefully widened or split to create space for the implant and additional bone material.

Bone block grafting

For severe bone loss, a small bone block (usually from the back of the jaw) can be transplanted to the deficient site to restore volume.

Bone grafting materials

We use only certified, clinically proven materials:

  • Your own bone (autogenous): The body’s own bone is considered the gold standard for healing.
  • Premium bone graft material: Synthetic or natural materials that act as a scaffold for your own new bone to grow into.
  • Membranes: These protect the newly grafted area from soft gum tissue growing in during the healing phase.

Precision, not guesswork

Thanks to our 3D CBCT technology, we plan your bone graft on the computer. We
measure the existing volume to the millimetre and can determine the position of the
implants virtually in advance. This makes the surgical procedure shorter,
safer and considerably less stressful for you.

FAQ – Common questions

Depending on the technique and material, the bone needs around 3 to 6 months to become stable enough to bear the final load of the implant.

In the great majority of cases, bone grafting and implant placement can be combined. More rarely, the sequence needs to be adjusted individually, planning three treatment stages instead of two. This is the exception, and depends on the starting condition of your bone.

No – under local anaesthetic or sedation you feel nothing. Mild swelling can occur afterwards, which we manage well with appropriate medication.
